Cricket was in Bahrain since the early 20th century. The earliest match of Cricket was held in 1932. This match was played between the Royal British Airforce of Bahrain and the Royal British Navy of Bahrain. In 1935, the Awali Cricket Club came into existence by the then British Oil Company. That company is in being with the BAPCO – Bahrain Petroleum Company in the present time.
The Bahraini national cricket team made its first international appearance in 1979. The match was at an invitational tournament with Kuwait, Qatar, and Sharjah (one of the United Arab Emirates).
20th Century
The national cricket team in Bahrain made its first appearance in an Asian Cricket Council tournament at the 2004 Asian Cricket Council Trophy in Malaysia. Bahrain started to play in Asian Cricket Council events from that time. Bahrain made several appearances in World Cricket League tournaments too. But the team was relegated back to regional tournaments after holding the fifth position in the 2013 Division Six.

In April 2018, the International Cricket Council granted full Twenty20 International (T20I) status to all its members. Therefore, all Twenty20 matches played between Bahrain and other International Cricket Council members after 1 January 2019 were a full T20I.
