Southern Charm star Kathryn Dennis got herself into some hot water earlier this month when she sent a black radio host a monkey emoji during a heated direct message exchange about politics, and then her former co-stars accused her of spreading lies about Cameran Eubanks’ marriage.
While Dennis hasn’t addressed the accusations from Eubanks and Naomie Olindo that claim Dennis is spreading lies about Eubanks’ husband Jason Wemberley having a two-year affair with a Charleston, South Carolina makeup artist, she has responded to the criticism about the monkey emoji.

After apologizing for the alleged racist message, Dennis promised that she would issue a full statement about the situation. But then, she went radio silent and hasn’t been publicly heard from since.
ICYMI, Dennis and radio host Mika Gadsen were arguing about a “Trump Boat Parade” that local Charleston business owners were planning. Dennis said that supporting President Trump doesn’t make you a racist, but then things escalated and Dennis sent Gadsen a monkey emoji.
Gadsen decided to share Dennis’ direct messages with her social media followers, and she wrote: “This is what happens when a Black woman in #Charleston speaks up against white supremacy.”
Not long after, Dennis tweeted that using a monkey emoji in her text was offensive, and from the bottom of her heart she was sorry. She added that the context was not her intention, but there are no “ifs ands or buts” that excuse her behavior. She concluded that she didn’t give it a thought, and that was wrong and she will do better.
However, not every fan accepted her apology, and many continued to call Dennis out for her behavior. Some even demanded that Bravo fire her from Southern Charm. This led to Dennis posting a message on Instagram last week, telling her followers that she couldn’t stand being quiet any longer.

“Y’all have to know that this whole thing has been blown out of context. I’m freakin heartbroken and SO depressed because the way I’m being portrayed is totally not true,” wrote Dennis. “I use that emoji all the time bc it looks silly and awkward and that’s my baseline.”
She went on to say that the account she was arguing with was anonymous, and she didn’t even know who she was messaging. Now, Dennis says she’s being labeled “all this crazy stuff and it’s just not true.” The mom-of-two finished up by writing that she would issue a full statement the next day to respond to the accusations against her because she can’t stand that her character is being annihilated.
It’s been days since Kathryn Dennis posted that message, but she never issued a statement and she has been radio silent ever since.

Southern Charm is currently on a break from shooting due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bravo has not yet revealed when they will resume filming or when Season 7 will premiere.
